I’m writing this letter knowing we live in a time where many Mainers feel conflict and disagreement with each other, but also knowing that most if not all of us care about the environment, jobs and opportunity here in Maine.
I’m asking everyone to learn a little bit about the damage green crabs have caused along the Maine coast, and to contact our local representatives and senators to the Maine Legislature and ask them to support HP 987, “An Act to Create a Green Crab Only Wholesale Dealer License.”
If passed, this bill would give Mainers a low-barrier, affordable shot at wholesaling invasive green crabs. This would fill a crucial gap in the small but growing market for green crabs in Maine. A green crab only wholesale license would help create jobs, stop damage to our coastal environment clamming fishery and promote a low-cost, nutritious, wild-caught seafood, for Maine and beyond.
