Alfie Cognata, Winthrop sophomore distance runner: Cognata ran the first leg of Winthrop’s Class C state title-winning 1,600 relay team last spring and was fifth in the 800. He placed second in the Class B indoor 800 this winter.

Ethan Demmons, Cony junior sprinter: Demmons placed fifth in the KVAC Large School 200 last season. He was third in the 400 and fourth in the 200 at the KVAC B indoor championships, helping the Rams win the team title.

Sam Gerrie, Maine Central Institute senior sprinter/jumper: Gerrie took fourth in the long jump and fifth in the 200 at the Class C state championships last spring. He won the triple jump and 200 at the Class B indoor meet this winter.

Hassan Hobbi, Winslow junior sprinter/hurdler: Hobbi was KVAC Small School runner-up and Class C state champ in the 110-meter hurdles last year. He was fourth at states in the 300 hurdles and is the top returning runner in that event.

Desmond Robinson, Carrabec senior distance runner: Robinson is the top returning Mountain Valley Conference runner in the 1,600 and 3,200. He finished fourth at the state meet in the 1,600 and seventh in the 3,200.

GIRLS

Gabrielle Finelli, MCI junior hurdler/jumper: Finelli finished second at the KVAC Small School championship and fourth in the Class C state meet in the 100 hurdles. She won the KVAC B title and finished second in Class B in the triple jump during the indoor season.

Natalie Grant, Gardiner sophomore race walker: Grant established herself as one of the state’s top race walkers as a freshman, beating out a tough field to win the KVAC Large School title before earning a runner-up finish at states.

Cassidy Hardy, Mt. Blue senior thrower: Hardy won the shot put and discus at the KVAC Large School meet last season. She finished second in the shot put and third in the discus as the Class A state meet.

Zoe Hutchins, Lawrence senior thrower: Hutchins is the defending KVAC Small School champion in both the shot put and discus. She finished second in both events at the Class B state meet. 

Kyri Meak, Winslow senior sprinter: Meak was third in the 200 and fourth in the 100 at the KVAC Small School championships as a junior last season. She finished fifth in the 200 and fourth in the 100 at the Class C state meet.
