Terry Rhys and Brady Alexander combined on a no-hitter as Richmond opened its baseball season with a 10-0 win over defending Class C state champion Sacopee Valley in a six-inning game Tuesday in Hiram.
Rhys struck out nine and walked five over the first five innings. Alexander retired the final three batters, with one strikeout, after Richmond put the 10-run rule into effect.
Kenny Mechum and David Edwards were repeat hitters for the Bobcats.
Keegan Thibodeau took the loss for Sacopee, allowing seven runs (four earned) in four innings.
GIRLS LACROSSE
CONY 10, ERSKINE ACADEMY 9: Abby Morrill scored her third goal of the game in overtime, lifting the Rams (1-1) over the Eagles (1-1) in Augusta.
Casey Monson also tallied three goals for Cony. Gabby Vachon scored twice, Emma Buccellato and Kate Morin were the other goal scorers, and Avery Maxim made nine saves.
Abbie McDonough led Erskine with three goals. Maddy McNeff and Brooke Blais each added two goals, Jackie Sasse and Belle Pelotte also scored, and Lauren Dufour stopped 16 shots.
LINCOLN ACADEMY 17, MT. BLUE 6: Mariam DeLisle tallied seven goals and three assists, Scarlett O’Brien scored four goals, and the Eagles (2-0) downed the Cougars (0-1) in Newcastle.
Zofie Day and Rowan Coffin each added two goals and two assists, and Yzze Bhe also scored twice for the Eagles.
Bree Griffin put in two goals, Lily Huntley had a goal and two assists, and Alaya Smith, Addison Decker and Maya Kellett also scored for Mt. Blue.
MONDAY’S BASEBALL
WATERVILLE 4, WINSLOW 1: Derek Couture struck out 13 batters to lead the Purple Panthers to a win over the Black Raiders in a season opener at Waterville.
Couture allowed seven hits and walked two.
Wyatt Jones, Joel Retamozzo and Xavier Hamlin each doubled for the Panthers.
Lucas Fisher had two singles for Winslow.
