Keith Morang of Winthrop was around for the start of a baseball dynasty at the University of Southern Maine, named as a third-team All-American as the Huskies made the first of their 15 consecutive NCAA Division III tournament appearances.

Now he will receive another honor as one of the 11 new members of the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony and banquet will be held Oct. 26 at the Holiday Inn By The Bay in Portland.
Morang went on to a successful high school coaching career at Winthrop, Hall-Dale and Monmouth Academy.
The other inductees include:
• Jeff Benson of Auburn, who coached high school and college baseball for 20 years, and has been a member of the board of umpires for 34 seasons.
• Mike Collar, a Scarborough High standout who had a 24-7 pitching record at the University of Maine from 2001-03. He also spent three seasons in the Houston Astros organization.
• Jeff Desjardins of Gorham, who is the second-year head trainer for the Cleveland Guardians and has been in the organization for 26 seasons.
• Fred Kneeland, who pitched two years in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization and had four no-hitters at Narraguagus High before being drafted in 1974. He has coached and umpired in youth baseball for 30 years.
• Milton (Mac) MacBride Sr., an inaugural member of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 1977, hit .549 as an Easton High senior in 1930. He played football as well as baseball at the University of Maine, where coach Fred Brice called him the best athlete he had in his 14 seasons.
• Garrett Olson, a former Oxford Hills player and now the Morse High baseball coach, played four years in the Minnesota Twins organization after twice being named an NCAA Division II All-American at Franklin Pierce in New Hampshire.
• Ron Plourde of Lewiston has won five conference championships in his 27 years as the Skidmore College baseball coach in New York.
• Fran Purnell, the force behind the creation of Waterville Little League in 1968, championed youth baseball for nearly 50 years. The MLB replica field there is named in his honor.
• Brian Seguin was a three-time All-Telegram League selection at Lewiston in the late 1980s before compiling a .309 career batting average at the University of Maine. He was a two-time All-ECAC shortstop.
• Robin Weed compiled a 209-80 record over 15 seasons while coaching at Winslow High and was named the KVAC coach of the year six times. His teams won four Eastern Maine championships.
