READFIELD — The victims in the April 21 fatal vehicle crash on Main Street have been identified by the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office as a Mount Vernon man and Auburn woman .
The driver is believed to have been Carl A. Hall, 25, of Mount Vernon, and the passenger was Emily R. Ouellette, 28, of Auburn, the Sheriff’s Office said. They died when the Ford Flex SUV they were in left the road, collided with a tree and burst into flames.
The crash at 1084 Main St. occurred at 12:52 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation, but officials believe that speed was a factor as a Maine State Police trooper reported seeing the vehicle earlier that night going faster than 70 mph on North Road. The trooper was not able to locate the vehicle and continued driving around the area before finding the crash site on Main Street, Chris Read, chief deputy at the Sheriff’s Office, said a news release.
The Readfield fire department and rescue personnel responded to the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office said that Deputy Jacob Poulin is conducting the investigation, which is ongoing.
An obituary for Ouellette described her as “kind, generous, creative and full of life.” Hall’s obituary has not been published.
