Gloria Maxine (Curtis) Brown

WELLINGTON – Gloria Maxine (Curtis) Brown, 89, of Wellington, went home to be with her family April 24, 2025. She passed away at home with her family as she wished.

The daughter of Malcom and Inez (Ward) Curtis, she was born on Aug. 7, 1935. She lived, laughed and loved and spent her life just 1500 feet from where she was born. She attended elementary school in Wellington and graduated as valedictorian from Harmony High School class of 1954. She married Wayman (Curly) Brown on Oct. 22, 1954. She was a member of the Wellinton Evangelical Church. She attended services faithfully and was very sad when the “little church” closed. She was ballot clerk of Wellington and a school board member for many years. She was most concerned about what was best for the children.

Gloria was predeceased by her parents; and her husband of 49 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Foss and husband Brent of Athens, her sons Wesly Brown, Owen Brown and wife Sarah, all of Wellington; grandchildren Nora Foss, Nathaniel Foss both of Athens, Amanda Brown and fiancé Darren Greenleaf of Wellington, and Edsel Brown and his wife Isabela of San Diego, Calif.; great-granddaughter, Saylynn “Say” Foss of Athens and Lucienne “Lulu” Greenleaf of Wellington; brother, Keith and his wife Elizabeth of Norridgewock; many nephews, nieces and cousins; and very special and beloved friends Stanley and Rhonda Bemis and sons of Harmony.

Special thanks for all the help and support through the years. Special thanks to hospice this last year. Gloria spent her life as a homemaker and mother. Her greatest joy was reading her bible, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.

There will be visiting hours Thursday May 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Somerset Valley Remembrance Center, 19 Washburn Lane, Skowhegan. A funeral service will take place May 2 at 11 a.m. at Somerset Valley Remembrance Center with burial to follow at Chadbourne Cemetery in Harmony.

Arrangements are in the care of Somerset Valley Remembrance Center, where condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the website at https://www.svremembrancecenter.com/.
