Joan H. Bowley
PITTSFIELD – Joan H. (Green) Bowley, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully, in Troy, surrounded by her family on April 28, 2025. She was born on April 3, 1944, in Albion, to Carleton and Louise Green.
Joan Bowley is one of seven children, Wayne Green, Dean Green, Donna Green (predeceased), Deborah Barclay and her husband Gary, Wilmont Green and his wife Terri, Marjorie Wiggins and her husband Rocky.
Joan leaves her legacy behind with her five children, Betty Elkins, Angela Lawler and her husband Tom, Catherine Ramee and her husband David, Charles Bowley and his wife Heather, and Carleton Bowley and his partner Peggy. She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Joan was a widow before she found love again with Ernest Bryant. They were two peas in a pod; you would never see one without the other.
One of Joan’s greatest gifts in life was serving others throughout the years. Joan joined and participated in many organizations that helped the Pittsfield community, including the Ladies’ Auxiliary and Elks Lodge #2713, where she held many positions. She provided rides to countless people in need. Any children and adults who required a safe place to lay their heads, Joan would welcome them with open arms and an open door, providing a warm bed, homemade delicious food, and all the hugs needed to help them get a new start in life.
Joan enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, dancing, and visiting friends and family. She enjoyed attending the Senior Club and the Country Jam. She was an avid collector of many things, especially McDonald’s toys and plates. She loved anything that sparkled.
Joan had a unique ability to meet people where they were in life with no judgment and always gave unconditional positive regard to everyone. She will be remembered for her sunny disposition, bright smile, and sense of community.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at the Elks Lodge, 140 Middle St., Pittsfield, on May 11 at 2 p.m. This is a potluck, so feel free to bring a dish. We ask everyone to wear bright colors and jewelry, just as Joan would do, and if you would like, she would have loved to see all the extravagant church hats.
