WATERVILLE — A six-hour police standoff that closed a downtown street ended with a domestic violence and criminal threatening arrest Saturday.
Waterville police were called to a residence on Chaplin Street just before 7 a.m. after a resident reported she and her boyfriend had been threatened and assaulted by a roommate, Waterville police Chief William Bonney said in a news release issued Tuesday. That roommate, later identified by police as Patrick H. Lloyd, 39, was armed with a handgun, the caller reported.
After securing the residence, police attempted to make contact with Lloyd, but he refused to leave the residence, creating a standoff with police and leading officials to close Chaplin Street to traffic for six hours.
The Waterville Police Department Crisis Negotiations Team eventually contacted Lloyd and convinced him to leave the residence.
At around 1 p.m., about six hours after the start of the standoff, Lloyd was arrested without further incident.
Lloyd was charged with two counts of domestic violence assault, criminal threatening and violating conditions of release, as well as failure to appear in court for traffic offenses.
