FAIRFIELD — Investigators arrested two people and seized a large amount of suspected illegal drugs when they searched a Fairfield home Wednesday, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 5:10 a.m., a team of Somerset County sheriff’s detectives and deputies, along with Waterville police detectives and Fairfield police officers, executed the search warrant on Faiths Way, Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said in a statement issued later Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s Office had been investigating the home for suspected illegal drug sales for months, Lancaster said.

While executing the search warrant, investigators initially detained 11 people, Lancaster said. They also seized more than 200 grams of suspected fentanyl and crack cocaine, controlled pills, drug-related documentations, and other drug-related items.

Lancaster said the seized drugs have a value of more than $20,000.

Donald Banks, 38, of New York, was arrested on two Class A counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and an outstanding arrest warrant, Lancaster said.

Banks was previously convicted of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs stemming from a 2012 Sheriff’s Office investigation, Lancaster said. Banks was sentenced in that case to seven years in prison, with all but 18 months suspended.

Robert Irish, 59, of Fairfield, was also arrested on two Class A counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, as well as one Class E count of violation of condition of release and two outstanding arrest warrants, Lancaster said.

Banks was being held at the Somerset County Jail in Madison on $50,000 cash bail as of Wednesday. Irish, who was on three sets of bail conditions for other charges, was being held without bail, Lancaster said.

Both are due in court Aug. 6 in Skowhegan, Lancaster said.

Three other people were charged in connection with Wednesday’s bust, he said.

Nicole Lamphere, 43, of Madison, was charged with one Class C count of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and one Class E count of violation of condition of release. Heather Ward, 39, of Winslow, and Justin Poirier, 28, of Norridgewock, were each charged with one Class D count of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

No information about the other six people at the residence was released.

The Sheriff’s Office’s investigation is ongoing, Lancaster said, and the case will be reviewed by the Somerset County district attorney’s office.

Lancaster encouraged those seeking help with substance use disorder to contact Betsy Richard, a care coordinator with Somerset Public Health who works with the Sheriff’s Office, by calling 207-858-8466.

Richard can help with treatment, harm reduction, or recovery support and will respect requests for privacy.

“We understand how dangerous substances can be, and we know that removing them from our communities can change lives,” Lancaster said in his statement. “But enforcement alone is not enough. We are here to support your recovery.”
