WINDHAM – Catherine A. (Grant) MacFarland, 80, of Windham, passed away on Saturday May 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 29, 1944, in Port Chester, New York, the daughter of the late Gilbert Grant and Catherine (Hayes) Grant. Cathy married the love of her life, Gary MacFarland, on November 19, 1973. Together they made a home in Norridgewock, Maine where they raised four children together. Cathy had a passion for gardening, cooking, and preserving memories through the many photos she cherished. She took great pride in her country, often filling her home with red, white, and blue décor that reflected both her patriotic spirit and her deep pride in her sons’ military service. More than anything, though, she treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and her beloved dog and faithful companion, Alix. Remaining to cherish Cathy’s memory are three sons and three daughters-in-law; Matthew A. York (Glenice) of Harrisville, N.Y.; Bryan J. MacFarland (Jenn) of Limington, ME; and Ryan E. MacFarland (Heather) of Crocker, Mo., grandchildren; April, Jared (Robb), Jamie, Brandon, Nathan, Eli, Jordan (Mckenna), Alex, and Ian. Preceding Cathy in death are her husband Gary MacFarland, and her son Mark York. A graveside service will be held Monday May 12, at 1 p.m., at Calvary Cemetery in Skowhegan, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Cathy’s memory may be made to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, a cause close
to her heart.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
