Lewis Ronald Loon

RICHMOND – Lewis Ronald Loon, a devoted family man, passed away May 6, 2025 with his children by his side, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, service and love. Lewis or “Ronnie,” as he was known to his friends and family, was born on March 5, 1940, in Richmond to Charles and Madelyn Loon.

Lewis spent his early years working on his family farm located on High Street in Richmond, Maple Lawn Dairy. At that time, it was one of the largest milk producers in the State and was renowned for the skills they brought to the farming industry, many articles headlined their farm in the newspaper.

Lewis was a 1958 Richmond High School graduate. After school he went on to spend some time traveling to Wyoming with friends where he practiced his hand at several trades, eventually coming home to work on the farm once more and meeting the love of his life, his wife, Cheryl. The two moved to Connecticut where Lewis found work at Electric Boat and International Silver as a machinist, they lived there for several years and had three children before returning to his hometown, his wife fell in love with a home on Boynton Street where they eventually had their fourth child and raised their kids, his children’s favorite project was the pool he built by hand, where many parties were held throughout the years and many of the local kids learned to swim.

In 1971, Lewis began his career at Maine Yankee, where he was a valued employee up until his retirement in 1997. He was nominated several times and proudly won “Man of the Year” for his dedication and excellence. After retirement, he continued his professional journey with Cianbro working on the dismantling of Maine Yankee where his youngest daughter had the opportunity to work side by side with her dad, he later took a position at Connecticut Yankee to assist in its decommissioning. He wasn’t done yet; he then worked with his eldest son operating multiple hydro projects in the State of Maine and served as project manager on the construction of a fish ladder at Burnham Hydro.

Beyond his career, Lewis served as a volunteer Fire Fighter in Richmond as well as a Mason for several years. Lewis thoroughly enjoyed the great outdoors with several fond memories, one of white water rafting with his eldest daughter down the Kennebec, many family trips north for the holidays, year round fishing, hunting and snowmobile trips, especially trips with his younger son fly fishing the East Outlet, he loved dining with his daughters and the trips back to Connecticut with his wife on many occasions to the casinos.

Lewis was predeceased by his parents Charles and Madelyn Loon; his sister, Cheryl Pickett; and his loving, beautiful wife whom he missed dearly, Cheryl Ann Loon.

Lewis is survived by his four children, his eldest, Jolene Benner, Lewis Charles Loon and wife Sherri, Lewis Donald Loon and wife Beth, and his youngest, “Bippity Boppity Boo” Laurisa Ann Loon and husband Chad. He adored his six grandchildren, Marissa Loon, Ashley Loon, Amber Loon, Luke Clark, Ben Loon and Beau Clark. Three great-grandchildren, Dean, Delaney and Maybel.

Lewis will be remembered for his steady presence, strong values, deep love for his family, and most importantly his wild looney side. “Sometimes late at night, oh when I’m bathed in the firelight, the moon comes callin’ a ghostly white and I recall, I recall, like a rock.”

Dad, you were our rock.
