ST. ALBANS — A fire destroyed a family’s home on Corinna Road on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
A man was home at the time of the fire and escaped without injuries, however, three family pets died in the fire.
Crews were called to the fire around 2:35 p.m. to 979 Corinna Road, St. Albans Fire Department Chief Paul Doughty said.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, said Doughty, and it is under investigation by the St. Albans Fire Department.
The home is considered a total loss. The fire department contacted the Red Cross to help make arrangements for the family.
Town records show the property belongs to Jenifer and Jeremy Bennett.
Corinna Road, also known as Route 43, connects Corinna and St. Albans.
This is the second fire in St. Albans this month and Doughty said he thanks the department’s mutual aid for their continuous efforts.
“It’s critical for the departments in this part of Somerset County and parts of Penobscot County to work together,” he said. “This is an example of a moderate-sized fire, where we needed and valued our five mutual aid partners for active firefighting and to help supply the water.”
Hartland, Corinna, Dexter, Canaan and Newport Fire Departments helped respond, he said.
