The Portland Sea Dogs scored four runs in the fourth inning and Blake Wehunt earned his first Double-A victory Wednesday, a 4-2 decision over the Somerset Patriots in a doubleheader opener at Bridgewater, New Jersey.
Wehunt (1-3) gave up two solo home runs but otherwise was unscathed, despite yielding five hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five.
Portland tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth on Tyler Miller’s one-out RBI single. Two batters later, Ahbram Liendo hit a two-run single, then Max Ferguson followed with another RBI single.
Reidis Sena struck out five of the seven batters he faced over the final two innings to notch his first save of the season.
In Game 2, three Somerset pitchers combined on a three-hitter and Dylan Jasso homered in a 3-0 victory for the Patriots.
Yordanny Monegro took the loss despite allowing only three hits and two runs over five innings. He struck out seven and walked one.
Blaze Jordan got two of Portland’s hits in the nightcap.
