Mary L. Tilas
AUGUSTA – It is with deep sadness the family of Mary L. Tilas announces her peaceful passing on April 16, 2025.
Born Feb. 22, 1945, in Portland, living most of her life in Beverly, Mass., she retired to Rangeley and wintered in Vero Beach, Fla.
Mary was a woman of many hats. In her prime, she was employed with Caldor and insurance finance businesses, a lifetime member of the Beverly Elks Lodge 1309, and always had time for reading, knitting, and quilting.
Mary’s love for her family was only rivalled by her love for her two cats, Smokey and Cougar.
Mary is survived by her sons Nick (Lucinda) and Matthew Tilas; her granddaughters Nichole, Katelynn, Melissa and Maddison, and her grandsons Christopher and Maddox. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren Lianna Averill and Teddy Sweetser.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John N. Tilas; and her parents Elliot and June Plummer.
In Mary’s honor, we encourage you to share your most cherished memories, funny stories, or photographs of her on the memorial page http://www.khrfuneralhomes.com because as we all know, Mary’s life was anything but ordinary.
Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, One Church St., Augusta.
