FARMINGTON — Franklin County commissioners will review a proposed nearly $11.6 million county budget for government and the jail for 2025-26 when they meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Emergency Operations Center at 120 County Way.

The county Budget Advisory Committee cut $87,841 from the original proposal to make the final budget $8 million for county government and $3.5 million for the jail. After factoring in anticipated revenues to both budgets, the collective total is nearly $10.3 million, which equals a tax assessment of nearly $1.40 per $1,000 of valuation.

Commissioners on May 21 added back $5,000 for health insurance purposes for the Emergency Management Agency.

If commissioners want to change anything in the proposal, they will need to have three members of the five-member board agree on the change. If they make changes, the proposal goes back to the Budget Advisory Committee. It will take eight members of the 11-member advisory committee to override the commissioners’ budget.
