In 1974, “the Rumble in the Jungle,” Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman, was the fight of the decade. It seems like the fight of this decade will be “the Cambridge Confrontation,” Trump vs. Harvard University.
It’s strange. Trump has been trying to bludgeon Apple into assembling its iPhones in the U.S., while doing his best to discourage foreign students from attending U.S. colleges.
Higher education is one of America’s great export industries, with more than 1.1 million foreign students, 500,000 in graduate school, studying here annually. They spend tens of billions of dollars, and take away both a great education and an appreciation of our country.
Back to the Cambridge Confrontation. It’s going to be one long, messy fight, but my money — and the smart money — is on Harvard.
