Brenden Dixon capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning with a two-run homer, giving the Altoona Curve a 9-7 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in the second of two Eastern League games Saturday in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
After winning 9-3 in the completion of Friday’s suspended game, the Sea Dogs had a 6-0 lead in the second game until the wildness of reliever Christopher Troye opened the door for Altoona’s comeback. Troye walked four batters and hit another in the fifth inning before Nick Cimillo suddenly tied the game with a grand slam.
Portland regained the lead on a sacrifice fly by Caden Rose in the top of the eighth. But Cimillo tied the game with a one-out single in the bottom half, and Dixon followed with his home run.
Sea Dogs third baseman Blaze Jordan was 3 for 3, raising his average to .320, and scored twice. Tyler Miller highlighted Portland’s five-run first inning with a two-run triple.
In the suspended game, Rose hit a three-run homer and Jack Anderson pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings as the Sea Dogs finished off their victory.
Portland held a 3-1 lead when the game resumed in the bottom of the fifth inning. Allan Castro and Mark Kolozsvary homered Friday, and Connelly Early struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings.
Anderson allowed only one hit and one walk while retiring 10 of the 12 batters he faced.
