Carroll B. Whitten
MANCHESTER – Carroll B. Whitten, 76, passed away at home on May 23, 2025. He was born Feb. 7, 1949. The eldest son of Theresa (Melanson) and Carroll G. Whitten.
Carroll graduated from Hall-Dale High School in 1968 and went on to proudly serve in the United States Air Force for six years, including both active duty and reserve service, achieving the rank of Sergeant. During his military service, he was stationed in Texas, Alaska, and North Dakota, where he served as a vehicle operator. Following his time in the Air Force, Carroll worked for a number of local businesses, including Cormier Foundations, Transco, True Value Hardware, and Home Depot. He also lent a hand on the Whitten family farm and supported his wife’s daycare, where he was “Uncle Carroll” to many children over the years.
Carroll, also known as “Bushwhacker,” was happiest when hunting, fishing, or spending time “upta camp” with family and friends. He had a remarkable talent for fixing and building – whether it was an addition to his house, the barn out back, or countless pieces of machinery along the way. Proudly calling himself a “jack of all trades,” Carroll was always willing to lend a hand to family, friends, and neighbors. If something needed fixing, chances are he had both the tool and the know-how to get it done.
Carroll is survived by his daughters, Christina Whitten Maloney and husband Matthew, grandchildren, Millie and Finn “Rooster” of Scarborough; Michelle Whitten Nash and grandchildren Belle Izzy and Elijah “Short Man” of Gardiner; his siblings, Sherry Flagg and husband Bryan of Gardiner Sandra Carey, Keith and wife Sharon, Wayne and partner Rondi, Craig and partner Karen, Carla Furrow and husband Keith, Kevin, Brett and partner Shannon all of Manchester; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years Dianne (Morton); his parents Carroll G. and Theresa Whitten; brother, Glenn; and dear friend, Danny “Boone” Danforth.
A celebration of life will be held June 13, at 2 p.m., at the Manchester Lions Club, Route 17, Manchester. He will be laid to rest in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Mount Vernon Road on a future date.
