Pet photographer Kaitlyn Ross uses her art to honor her clients’ “soul dogs.” Her new studio on Range Road in Brunswick centers around dogs and the people that love them.
Set to open in late June or early July, Soul Dog Studio will be a “doggie-led” space, Ross said. Sessions will include plenty of toys and treats, and dogs are always allowed on the couch.
A dog photographer for roughly six years, Ross has been operating her photography business, Venture with Dogs, out of her home in Lisbon. With the new studio, she wanted a physical location where clients can feel comfortable bringing dogs of all backgrounds and temperaments.
“I really love working with dogs that can be a little reactive; things outside can be a little fearful for them, so I wanted to create a space that is very dog-inclusive and kind of felt like home for them,” Ross said.
Soul Dog Studio also caters to senior dogs who might need a little extra comfort, Ross said. She also hopes to work with shelters taking free photos of adoptable pups.
Her first dog model was her own “soul dog,” Kona. She’s also inspired by a beloved childhood dog, who taught her to cherish every moment in a pet’s golden years.
“Dogs, unfortunately, don’t live forever, so being a person that can help preserve these moments has been an honor,” Ross said.

A session at Soul Dog is anything but sitting and staying for hours, Ross said. Rather, she captures her four-legged clients having fun, interacting with their humans and being their authentic, lovable selves.
Ross said that if the dogs are happy, “then they look happy in the photos.”
The studio includes a viewing and ordering room, so clients can pick from a range of photos and displays.
Ross already has a waitlist of clients excited to try out the new studio. She’s hoping to welcome clients soon and will host an open house later this month. Soul Dog Studio can be found online at thesouldogstudio.com and on Facebook and Instagram.
