Despite an early goal from Azaad Liadi, Portland Hearts of Pine had a five-match winning streak snapped Saturday night as the Chattanooga Red Wolves earned a 2-1 victory in a USL League One game in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
It was just the second loss in eight league games for Portland, which is now 1-2-5. Chattanooga moved up to fourth place, while Hearts of Pine are 12th in the 14-team league.
Portland grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when Liadi scored off a set piece. Ollie Wright sent his free kick into the box, and after a failed clearance by a Chattanooga defender, Liadi stretched out to get his foot on the ball and direct it under the crossbar.
Chattanooga, though, tied the game in the 28th minute on a goal by Declan Watters, then took the lead on a Pedro Hernandez goal in the 35th.
Portland outshot the Red Wolves 11-8 and had a huge edge in possession — 69% to 31 — but the Hearts put only two shots on target.
Portland will be back home for its next league game, against Union Omaha on Sunday, June 15. The teams have already played once this season, a 2-2 draw in Nebraska on May 10.
