Susan “Sue” Lee Bowie

HOWLAND – Susan “Sue” Lee Bowie, 82, of Howland, Maine, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Dec. 2, 1942, in Scarborough, Maine, daughter of Edward Freeman and Nellie Anderson Freeman. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sue’s warmth and generosity touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of love and kindness.

In 1964, Sue married the love of her life, William Bradstreet Bowie, embarking on a 60-year journey of partnership and devotion. Together, they raised four children, filling their home with laughter, traditions, and unwavering support. Sue’s home was a haven, always warm and welcoming, where she hosted memorable Thanksgiving feasts that brought family together in joy and gratitude.

As one of 13 brothers and sisters, Sue cherished her large extended family, maintaining close bonds with her siblings, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Her family grew to include 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored.

She is survived by her son, William and his wife Jacqueline, and their children, Jonathan (and his wife Ripley), Elizabeth (and her husband Andrew), Christa, Emily, and Hope, along with four great-grandchildren; daughter Janet and her partner Joe, and her children, Danielle (her husband Warren), Cody (predeceased), Patrick and Amanda (predeceased); daughter Deborah and her husband, Bruce, and their son, Maddison; and daughter Gail and her husband, Steve, and their daughters, Jennifer, Shelby, and Kelly (and her husband, Ryan).

Sue was an avid collector, she loved gardening, baking for her grandchildren, reading, bowling, golf, and playing cards. Her favorite past time was traveling the roads of Maine with her husband. Professionally, Sue wore many hats, serving as a store manager, secretary, postal clerk, and a talented pizza and donut chef, bringing her warmth and dedication to every role. Yet, her most cherished “full-time job” was caring for her beloved husband, William, with unwavering love and devotion.

Sue’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and family. Her welcoming spirit, kind heart, and ability to make everyone feel at home will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family will honor her memory with a quiet farewell.

Rest in peace, dear Sue—you will forever be loved and remembered.
