I was more than disappointed by Steve Collins’ appraisal of Sen. Susan Collins’ actions/inactions during the Trump era (“Like it or not, Susan Collins and Jared Golden have Mainers’ respect,” May 31).
He has confused her oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and civic duty with mere politics. There is no “middle ground” in deciding whether or not to enforce previously approved allocations and whether or not arrests without due process are legal.
These are not political issues; they are clearly unconstitutional. Her votes to approve clearly unqualified nominees for Cabinet positions was political but was in no way a compromise — except, possibly, to her own ethics.
