Katie Wallace had three hits and pitched three innings of relief for a save as fifth-seeded Greely edged 12th-seeded Oak Hill, 5-4, in a Class B South softball prelim Tuesday in Cumberland.
Wallace faced 10 batters and allowed just one hit as Greely (11-6) held on to a one-run lead after Oak Hill (8-9) cut its deficit to 5-4 with three runs in the fifth.
Samantha Santerre hit two doubles for Greely, which advanced to play No. 4 Freeport in the quarterfinals. Santerre, Wallace, Presley Allard and Mia Stewart each drove in a run.
Izzy Whitaker had two hits, and Sydney Wood, Ava Lemont, Kendall Theriault and Saryn Blais each had an RBI for Oak Hill.
Whitaker recorded nine strikeouts while allowing five hits and two walks.
SOUTH PORTLAND 8, WESTBROOK 1: Rachel DiMauro had four hits, three RBI and two runs scored, Maegan Berry pitched a six-hitter with eight strikeouts, and the 10th-seeded Red Riots (8-9) downed the seventh-seeded Blue Blazes (8-9) in a Class A South prelim at Westbrook.
DiMauro hit two doubles and two singles, while Berry had a triple and a single, an RBI and a run scored.
Emma Boulette hit a single and a double for Westbrook.
South Portland next plays second-seeded Scarborough in the quarterfinals.
BASEBALL
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 11, GARDINER 1: Alex Allain hit a home run and drove in three runs as the eighth-seeded Raiders (9-8) beat the ninth-seeded Tigers (7-10) in six innings in a Class B South prelim in Fryeburg.
Michael Malia had two hits, including a double, and four RBI for Fryeburg, which advances to face No. 1 Cape Elizabeth in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Jagger Helwig had three hits and Noah Day added two for the Raiders.
KENNEBUNK 1, FALMOUTH 0: Isaac Jensen pitched a five-hitter with two walks and 11 strikeouts, and the 12th-seeded Rams (7-10) scored on an error in the fourth inning to beat the Navigators (12-5) in a Class A South prelim in Falmouth.
Kennebunk advanced to play No. 4 Biddeford in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Jacoby Porter and Ben Robbins each had two hits for Falmouth.
SOUTH PORTLAND 3, BONNY EAGLE 0: Hudson Iacuessa pitched 6 1/3 innings to lead the Red Riots (12-5) over the Scots (8-9) in a Class A prelim in South Portland.
Iacuessa allowed three hits, walked one and struck out 14 while earning his sixth win of the season.
No. 7 South Portland advances to face No. 2 Scarborough in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The Red Riots took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Michael Zaccaria singled, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jude Charltray.
Easton Healy added two-run single in the fifth.
GIRLS LACROSSE
MARSHWOOD 18, SOUTH PORTLAND 8: Sarah Theriault scored eight goals, including the 200th of her career, and also had four assists as the third-seeded Hawks (11-4) handled the 14th-seeded Red Riots (7-8) in a Class A prelim in South Berwick.
Maddy Poitras added six goals and two assists, Eva Hersey had a goal and three assists, and Liv Drake scored twice for the Hawks. Marshwood goalies Leigh Twohig (four saves) and Makayle Coy (one save) split time.
Sophia Talty and Cara Inman each had two goals, and Amelia Burton-Fowler stopped 11 shots for South Portland.
WINDHAM 20, OXFORD HILLS 5: Abby Trainor scored six goals as the second-seeded Eagles (14-1) cruised to a win over the 15th-seeded Vikings (5-10) in a Class A prelim in Windham.
Morgan McLain netted five goals, Neve Ledbetter scored three and Grace Joly added two for Windham, which advances to play the winner of Wednesday’s game between No. 10 Massabesic and No. 7 Yarmouth in the quarterfinals on Friday. Elizabeth Baker, Mady Donnelly and Grace McPherson also scored for the Eagles.
Kira-Mae Berry and Gracie Hart both scored twice for Oxford Hills. Mallory Kennagh added a goal.
