David Michael McGuire
BANGOR – David Michael McGuire passed away on May 14, 2025, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. David was born on Dec. 30, 1957 in Augusta. He attended St. Mary Catholic School and graduated from Cony High School.
David held several jobs in his lifetime, most recently with Sheltered by Jesus Homeless Shelter in Skowhegan. Serving the homeless was a proud calling for David and he shared his love with many folks in need. David also worked for Interstate Fire Protection for many years, and earlier he worked for the Head Start Program in Augusta driving a bus and serving meals to the children for whom he also felt great love.
David greatly enjoyed his travels to Mexico and Key West with his brother Dan, sister- in-law Karen, and very good friend Dan Joliceur. He also cherished his family’s gatherings “Upta Camp” each summer on Cobbossee Lake. David was a lover of all New England sports teams. Sunday night football with his beloved Patriots was a highlight for many years, including a call to his sister Dee to go over each other’s menu plans for the game. He was also a big fan of the Boston Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. David also enjoyed quiet time listening to his most beloved Beatles; their music brought a smile and comfort to his face.
David was predeceased by his mother Gertrude Elizabeth (Duren) McGuire, his father Norman Paul McGuire, Sr., and two sisters Rebecca Lee McGuire and Margaret Susan (McGuire) McNeish.
He is survived by his former spouse Melissa McGuire, two children Norman McGuire and Nicole Rines and grandchildren Chase and Weston Rines. Also, his siblings Norman Paul McGuire Jr. and his wife Kristin; his twin sister Diane Marie McGuire; brother Daniel Francis McGuire and his wife Karen; Kimberly Louise (McGuire) Balzano and her husband Tom; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David spent his last several months battling terminal cancer. He fought his illness quietly and with dignity; he never complained of his pain or his diagnosis. His last days were spent listening to The Beatles, reminiscing with family about childhood memories growing up on Columbia Street in Augusta and most importantly remembering his children – he was filled with pride when talking of Nicole and Norman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday the June 23, 2025, at 12 p.m., Saint Mary of the Assumption Church, 41 Western Avenue, Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Sheltered by Jesus, 12 McLellan Street, Skowhegan Maine or online at sheltersbyjesus.com.
