Richard J. Coleman

WINTHROP – Richard J. Coleman, 80, passed away at home on Monday, June 9, 2025, with his loving family at his side. He is the husband of Sandra (Edgecomb) Coleman with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Richard was born July 15, 1944, in Bath. He is the son of the late Stanley R. and Leah M. (Gallant) Coleman. Richard and Sandi resided in Winthrop for many years. He was a graduate of Morse High School class of 1962.

Richard worked at Progressive Distribution Center until his retirement. He then worked at Cumberland Farms where he was happiest when interacting and helping others.

Richard will always be remembered for his outgoing, loving personality. He treasured his family. He celebrated his 80th birthday by crossing off a bucket list item, visiting Alaska on a cruise with his family in August 2024. Richard was an amazing role model to many young men especially his loving grandsons.

He enjoyed serving the Winthrop community. He was involved with Keep Winthrop Warm, The Rotary Club, Winthrop Food Pantry, and was a board member for Winthrop Utilities.

In addition to his loving wife Sandi, Richard is survived by his daughters Dawn Brooks (favorite oldest daughter) and her husband Kevin, Michelle Mitchell (favorite youngest daughter) and her husband Randy; his treasured grandchildren, Adam Brooks and his partner Liz Nelson, Jason Brooks and his fiancé Emily Roy, Trish Ward, Abby Gosselin and her husband Bradley; his great-granddaughter, Levvy and her father Jon; his sister, Arlene Strahan and her husband Roy. His brother and sisters-in-law Gene and Beverly Edgecomb and Vic and Ann Edgecomb, his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Brad Ingalls; his special cousins Bobby and Ellen Brewer and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to thank Andwell Hospice and Central Maine Cancer Center for their care and compassion.

Richard’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 130 Route 133, Winthrop on Friday, June 20, at 11 a.m. Immediately following Mass, a celebration of life will be held at the parish hall next door. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
