Brendan Jones was 3 for 4 as the Somerset Patriots defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 3-1 on Sunday in the teams’ series finale in Somerset, New Jersey.
Jones scored a run and added an RBI for Somerset (29-34). Garrett Martin had two hits, including a two-run single that gave the Patriots a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Patriots starter Brendan Beck pitched 4 2/3 innings of shutout ball, striking out six batters and walking one. Indigo Diaz (4-1) pitched 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief to earn the win.
Sea Dogs starter Dalton Rogers (1-1, 6.75 ERA) allowed two runs, both earned, and five hits in five innings with seven strikeouts. Teammate Luis Ravelo doubled and scored Portland’s run on Zach Ehrhard’s groundout.
The teams split the six-game series.
