CARRABASSETT VALLEY — The driver of a tractor-trailer truck loaded with logs was reaching for his coffee Tuesday afternoon when the rig went off state Route 27 and rolled onto its side near Caribou Pond Road, police officer Connor Cook wrote in an email.

Gerald Tousignant, 63, of Quebec was driving the rig owned by Transport South Bec Express of Quebec.

Tousignant told police he was reaching for his coffee when the rig went off the road about 4:38 p.m., Cook wrote.

Personnel from MaineHealth EMS ambulance service assessed Tousignant, who said he wasn’t hurt.

Two heavy wreckers from Dutch Gap Auto in Chesterville were called to the scene for cleanup.

Cook was assisted by officer Ben Gaudet and Carrabassett Valley and Eustis fire departments.
