Janet Clara (Rohmann) Jones
SKOWHEGAN – Janet Clara (Rohmann) Jones peacefully passed away at her home in Skowhegan on Dec. 19, 2024, just two days shy of her 102nd birthday. Born on Dec. 21, 1922, at the Brooklyn, N.Y. Norwegian Hospital, she was the cherished daughter of Charles and Clara Rohmann.
Janet was always surrounded by her loving extended family and friends. As a child and into adulthood, she traveled with her family to Long Island and Connecticut. During the summer she would visit houses that her grandfather built where there were often picnics, swimming and boating alike. Her parents often had dinner parties at their Brooklyn home with family and friends too. Janet grew up very happy and with much joy.
She went to a Brooklyn high school and graduated at the top of her class. She then went on to a very prestigious position as the personal assistant to the president of the largest bank in Manhattan. Furthermore, she worked there through the war where she met her husband Edward Jones in 1946. They met at their church, got married in 1947 and had seven wonderful children. Janet traveled all over the world with her family and spoke many languages.
An avid reader, she maintained a broad knowledge of diverse topics throughout her life. Janet had many talents and raised her children always with a smile and enjoyed their company. She practiced her Christian faith daily and loved to sing in the choir. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school and attending various church events. Janet loved her church friends as family.
She was a very loving wife for 55 years till Edward’s death. After Edward’s passing, Janet moved back to Skowhegan to be closer to her daughter Alice and grandchildren. Her loving son, Will came to stay with Alice and Janet to help with their health issues and took great care of them. Janet continued to enjoy her family, the church and friends till her passing.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her only brother, Charles Rohmann; husband Edward; daughter Alice Haiss, son Thomas Jones, son James Jones and son William Jones.
She is survived by her children Edward Jones, Jr., Mary Jones, Kenneth Jones, and Lucy Jones; and grandchildren Kate Haiss and Timothy Haiss; and great-grandchildren.
