The NBA Draft begins Wednesday night in Brooklyn, New York, where Newport native Cooper Flagg is expected to be selected No. 1 overall by the Dallas Mavericks.

The Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets, will host the draft Wednesday and Thursday.

The first round Wednesday will be aired on ABC and ESPN at 8 p.m. The second round on Thursday will be on ESPN, also at 8 p.m.

The draft will also be available on the ESPN app.

Here’s what you need to know for draft night …

Why is the NBA Draft two nights?

This marks the second year the NBA split up its two-round draft over two nights. The league announced last year that splitting up the draft helped teams regroup for the second round.

How many lottery picks are there?

There were 14 picks that were determined by a lottery, held in May.

So … who won the NBA Lottery?

The Dallas Mavericks won the lottery and will have the first overall pick. Dallas had just a 1.8% chance to win it.

Here’s how the lottery went down:

1. Dallas
2. San Antonio
3. Philadelphia
4. Charlotte
5. Utah
6. Washington
7. New Orleans
8. Brooklyn
9. Toronto
10. Houston (reportedly traded to Phoenix in Kevin Durant deal)
11. Portland
12. Chicago
13. Atlanta (from Sacramento)
14. San Antonio (from Atlanta)

How many total picks will be made in the draft?

Typically, there are 60 total picks in the draft, but this year there will be just 59. That’s because the New York Knicks were docked a second-round pick as a result of the NBA’s probe into the 2022 signing of star Jalen Brunson.
