Marvin Alcantara was 2 for 4 with a two-run double, and three pitchers combined on a four-hitter for the Portland Sea Dogs in a 4-3 Eastern League win Tuesday night against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in Binghamton, New York.
Starting pitcher Hayden Mullins didn’t allow a hit until Ryan Clifford homered with two outs in the fourth inning. Binghamton cut Portland’s lead to 4-3 with two runs in the fifth, but Noah Song pitched two scoreless innings and Yovanny Cruz got the final three outs.
Mullins struck out six and gave up three hits and one walk over six innings.
Alcantara staked the Sea Dogs to a 2-0 lead when he doubled home Zach Ehrhard and Max Ferguson in the second inning. Newcomer Brooks Brannon doubled and scored on a single by Ronald Rosario in the fourth, and James Tibbs III drove in Ahbram Liendo with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
