Robert “Bob” C. Emery Jr.
WINTHROP – Robert “Bob” C. Emery Jr., 66, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2025 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Feb. 26, 1959, in Augusta, Bob was the oldest child of Robert C. Emery Sr. and the late Mary Ann (Baker) Emery. Bob attended Farrington Elementary School, Hodgkins Middle School, and graduated from Cony High School in 1977. He played football on the high school team and was a life-long Patriots fan.
From a young age, Bob loved tinkering on engines alongside his dad, a passion that eventually led him to build his own dune buggy with neighborhood friends and cousins. Bob had a natural talent for the trades, especially electrical work and was motivated to pursue his journeyman’s license under the mentorship of Joe Suga, and eventually become a licensed master electrician. He attended Central Maine Community College (formerly CMVTI) where he earned an associate’s degree in Electromechanical Technology.
After completing his education, he joined the work force at Central Maine Power, first as a meter reader and eventually as an electrical specialist. Employed by CMP for 45 years, he had a remarkable work ethic and felt blessed to have had a career that he truly enjoyed. Bob also ran his own small electrical business (Emery’s Electric) on the side for 40 years. He appreciated the autonomy of self-employment and enjoyed interacting with his clients on a personal level. Bob never yearned for fame or acclaim, but rather took pride in laboring tirelessly in the shadows to bring light to fellow Mainers.
On July 26, 1985, Bob married Donna (Poulin) Emery, the love of his life and partner for nearly 40 years. Together they built a home on the shore of Lake Cobbosseecontee and raised two wonderful children, Nicole and Andrew. Bob often remarked how grateful he was for the gift of family. One of his greatest joys came from being “Gramp” to his four beautiful grandchildren, Gavia, Griffin, and Grafton Hasenfus and Mateo Emery, whom he cherished. Bob’s life was marked by selflessness and a genuine dedication to helping others. He volunteered his time and reached out a hand every way he could. He was the rock of his family!
Steeped in Maine tradition, Bob enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, boating on Cobbossee Lake and observing wildlife. He loved working in the woods and in his wood yard, as well as landscaping his property with his wife. Together they were a good team and could read each other’s minds. In his later years, Bob gravitated towards the game of golf, again finding peace and joy in the outdoors, especially when the moments were shared with family and friends.
Bob was a communicant of St. Michael Parish for 40 years and accepted the invitation to become baptized in to the Catholic Church in 2024. His faith and steady presence made a lasting impact on all who knew him. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, colleague and friend and will be deeply missed! He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and quiet strength. Bob’s love for his family and his deep-rooted values will live on in those who were lucky enough to know him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Emery of Winthrop; his daughter, Dr. Nicole (Emery) Hasenfus and husband, attorney, Tavis Hasenfus of Readfield, a son, Dr. Andrew Emery, and his wife Dr. Daniela Vargas Emery of Freeport; four grandchildren, Gavia, Griffin, and Grafton Hasenfus, and Mateo Emery; father, Robert C. Emery Sr., of Augusta; a brother, Michael Emery and wife, Jeannine of Whitefield, a sister, Diane McCurdy and partner, John Cyr, of Portland, a brother, Gary Emery and wife, Kimberly, of Winthrop; in-laws Norman and Jeanne Poulin of Augusta, Lisa and Al Brochu of Augusta; and many special aunts, uncles; cousins; nieces, nephews; and friends.
The Emery family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at New England Cancer Specialists, Andwell Health Partners Hospice Care, and the clergy of St. Michael Parish for their compassion and support.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 2, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Ave., Augusta.
