Carson Benge and Nick Morabito produced RBI hits in the bottom of the 11th inning Saturday night, lifting the Binghamton Rumble Ponies to a 3-2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game at Binghamton, New York.
Benge’s one-out double — just the third hit of the game for Binghamton — drove in automatic runner William Lugo with the tying run after the Sea Dogs took the lead in the top of the 11th. Morabito followed with the winning hit against Yovanny Cruz.
Sea Dogs pitchers Payton Tolle and David Sandlin combined for 16 strikeouts and allowed only two hits through the first nine innings. Tolle, a top prospect making his first start since his promotion to Double-A, struck out nine over five innings. The lone hit he allowed was an RBI single by Jacob Reimer that tied the game in the fourth inning.
Portland opened the scoring in the second inning. Max Ferguson singled with two outs, stole second and scored when Marvin Alcantara’s grounder resulted in an error.
Ferguson later gave the Sea Dogs a 2-1 lead in the 11th inning, singling home automatic runner Brooks Brannon.
