Emmeline (Glidden) Walton
AUBURN – Emmeline Glidden Walton, 93, died peacefully on June 8, 2025 in Auburn, surrounded by her three children. She was born Dec. 15, 1931 in Patten, the daughter of the late Wilbur and Geneva Glidden.
Emmeline was a proud graduate of Patten Academy in 1951. She immediately enlisted in the Woman’s Air Force, serving for eight months before she was honorably discharged when she married (the late) William Erickson. They lived in Houlton and had three daughters, Jennifer (Hovey), Gretchen and Amanda. Sadly, Gretchen and Amanda died as young children.
She later married Gary Walton from Monticello. They had a son, Casey, and a daughter Brittany (Willey). They lived for several years in Shrewsbury Mass. before moving to Monmouth. Most recently, she lived at Schooner Estates, a retirement community in Auburn.
Music was a love of her life, second only to the love she had for her family and friends. As a child, she loved singing country and gospel harmonies with her sister, Madelyn Townsend. She taught herself piano, guitar and accordion and always continued singing. She was an avid bridge player, a lover of antiques, an accomplished self-taught artist. She enjoyed golf, swimming and taking long walks.
Emmeline was loved by everyone she knew. She is survived by Jennifer and her husband Philip Hovey, Casey and his wife Sandra Walton, Brittany Willey; and five beloved grandchildren, Emma, Levi, Delaney, Rachel and Bailey. There are also many nieces, nephews; cousins; special family friends; and an outstanding brother-in-law, Thurston Townsend.
She requested a simple, private graveside service in Island Falls.
The Church of the Good Shepherd in Houlton was her church and where she wanted any donation in her memory to be made:
