Brian Dumoulin is on the move again.

Dumoulin, a Biddeford native, signed a three-year, $12 million contract Tuesday with the Los Angeles Kings during the first day of free agency in the National Hockey League, the Kings announced on their website.

A 6-foot-4 defenseman, Dumoulin, who will turn 34 in September, played in 80 games this past season. He had two goals and 14 assists in 61 games for the Anaheim Ducks. He was traded to the New Jersey Devils on March 6 for a second-round pick in the 2025 draft and forward Herman Traff. In 19 games with the Devils, Dumoulin had a goal and five assists.

Dumoulin just wrapped up his 10th full NHL season. A 2009 second-round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes, Dumoulin was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2012. He debuted with the Penguins during the 2013-14 season and played eight full seasons in Pittsburgh, helping the team win the Stanley Cup in 2016 and 2017. He’s the first Maine-born player to win a Stanley Cup.

Dumoulin signed a two-year contract with the Seattle Kraken for the 2023-24 season, finishing with 16 points in 80 games. He was traded by Seattle to Anaheim for a 2026 fourth-round pick last July.

In 706 NHL games, Dumoulin has 28 goals and 149 assists. He has a career +/- rating of +95 and 180 career penalty minutes. He’s also played in 86 postseason games, scoring four goals with 21 assists.

Dumoulin helped Biddeford High win the Class A boys hockey title in 2007 and 2008 before playing for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs during his senior year. He played for three Hockey East champions at Boston College and two two NCAA championship teams (2010, 2012). In 2012 he was a preliminary finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the best player in college hockey.
