The Maine Marine Patrol has resumed its search for an Augusta man who jumped off his boat to rescue his dog in the Kennebec River.

Robert Stolt, 22, was fishing Sunday afternoon north of Bath when his dog jumped into the water, according to a statement from the Maine Department of Marine Resources.

Another dog and a female passenger on the 23-foot boat had also ended up in the river near Lines Island. She and the dogs were rescued by other boaters, but Stolt did not resurface, U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Blake Maurer said Monday.

The search was called off around 11 p.m. Sunday due to poor visibility. It resumed early Monday and continued Tuesday with Marine Patrol boats, aircraft and a Maine Forest Service drone. Crews are focusing on the river near Lines Island, according to a Marine Patrol spokesperson.
