The Hartford Yard Goats scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, then added four runs in the ninth to pull away for a 6-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game Tuesday night at Hadlock Field in Portland.
Hartford’s first two runs were unearned. In the first inning, Kyle Karros doubled, stole third and scored on a throwing error. In the eighth, Karros drew a walk, then advanced on a single by Charlie Condon and a passed ball before scoring on Juan Guerrero’s sacrifice fly.
The Yard Goats broke it open in the ninth with the help of Nic Kent’s fourth hit of the game and an RBI double by Dyan Jorge. GJ Hill’s sacrifice fly made it 4-1, and two more runs scored on a Condon sacrifice fly.
The Sea Dogs were held to four hits, two of which came in the first inning. James Tibbs III hit a single and scored all the way from first on Zach Ehrhard’s two-out double to center.
Sea Dogs starter Eduardo Rivera lasted six innings, allowing four hits and three walks.
