I disagree with a July 2 letter to the editor (“Insulting comments about ICE hits a nerve“). The writer expressed upset that ICE agents are sometimes compared to the Third Reich. He proudly cited his father’s service as a former ICE officer.
I wonder if his father kidnapped innocent people, sending them to foreign countries without due process; stalked innocent people at offices as they were routinely doing due diligence to become citizens; attempted to access students at schools? Would somebody in his position have been pleased that $450 million per year will be spent on the Florida Everglades “Alligator Alcatraz” facility?
I believe Alligator Alcatraz is a similar concept to Germany’s cruel, inhuman concentration camps. There is not much difference between Nazi Brownshirts who grabbed innocent people off Berlin streets with no due process than what ICE is willing to do today. The difference between the writer’s father’s service and today’s ICE is that President Trump, Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, Tom Homan and Pam Bondi were not in charge.
I believe comparisons of ICE with aspects of the Third Reich are, sadly, valid.
