Zoe Castrucci, Hampden Academy senior: Castrucci competed in the state singles tournament for the fourth consecutive year and advanced past the round of 16 for the first time. She was the fourth seed in the tournament and reached the semifinals before falling 6-3, 6-2 to Sofia Kirtchev, who went on to win the tournament. 

 

Laura Chapman, Boothbay senior: Chapman reached the semifinals of the state singles tournament before falling 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to finalist Molly Tefft of Brunswick. Chapman did not lose a single match in the Mountain Valley Conference in her time at Boothbay, and was on the all-league team in each of her four seasons, earning MVC Player of the Year this spring.

Claire Dwyer, Maranacook senior: Dwyer made it to the round of 16 for the third time, and also captured the point that gave Maranacook the Class C state championship with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Ariana Crosby of Piscataquis. 

 

 

Sofia Kirtchev, Falmouth junior: Kirtchev dominated in singles, winning the state championship as the No. 1 seed and never allowing an opponent to win more than three games against her. The Varsity Maine Girls Tennis Player of the Year also helped Falmouth win the Class A state title while extending the team’s winning streak to 32 matches.

Sophia Monfa, Cheverus senior: In her first year competing in the state singles tournament, the 10th-seeded Monfa reached the quarterfinals before losing to eventual runner-up Molly Tefft of Brunswick, 6–2, 6–1. Monfa was also the No. 1 singles player for Cheverus, which won nine of its 15 matches this season.

Phoebe Reilly, Falmouth freshman: Reilly was seeded 11th in the state singles tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Laura Chapman of Boothbay, 6-3, 6-4. In the Class A championship match, as the Navigators’ No. 3 singles player, Reilly took the first point in Falmouth’s eventual victory by defeating Atalanta Roberts of Camden Hills, 6–2, 6–4. 

 

Olive Siegel, Lincoln Academy senior: In the Class B championship match, Siegel played at No. 2 singles and secured the Eagles’ win against Old Town by beating Ally Caron in a match that lasted just over two hours. Siegel stepped up to take the No. 2 spot for Lincoln this season and earned Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference first-team honors.

Molly Tefft, Brunswick junior:  Seeded second in the singles tournament, Tefft made it to the final before falling to Falmouth’s Sofia Kirtchev, 6–2, 6–3. Tefft also picked up the lone win for the Brunswick in the Class A North final, beating Hattie Moss of Camden Hills, 7-5, 6-3. 

 

 

Coach of the Year

Melissa Burroughs, Lincoln Academy: Burroughs coached the Eagles to their first Class B championship since 2022. In the Class B final, Burroughs directed her team through a tight match against Old Town. The No. 2 singles player, Olive Siegel, won a grueling three-set showdown that secured a 3-2 victory. After a loss in the first set, Burroughs coached Siegel through the next two, encouraging her to focus on her strokes for the remainder of the match.
