Brunswick Police apprehended a feathered felon Monday night after receiving calls about a “large bird” along the road.

Police were surprised to find an emu near Mid Coast Hospital, the department posted on Facebook. The emu had slipped out of its yard and made a “brief dash” into the roadway before hanging out in the hospital parking lot.

Dashcam video posted on Facebook shows the large Australian bird dart in front of a police cruiser.

Officers waited with the emu until its owners, who live nearby, were able to get the bird home safely.
