Spend a day at the Union Fair

UNION — The Union Fair — Maine’s Wild Blueberry Festival will open Wednesday, , and run through Aug. 3, at 175 Fairgrounds Lane.

Fairgoers can expect to see 4-H exhibits and competitions, agricultural events, a blueberry pie eating contest, midway offerings, classes and more.

Maine Quilts focus of exhibit this weekend

AUGUSTA — The Pine Tree Quilters Guild, Inc. is set to host Maine Quilts 2025 Thursday through Saturday at Augusta Civic Center, 76 Community Drive.

The event features more than 500 quilts, workshops, events and activities to inspire quilters of all levels. Exhibits are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

OakFest returns

OAKLAND — OakFest 2025 is planned for Friday and Saturday at various locations around town.

Main Street will close at 2:30  p.m. Friday to kick off festivities with a Margaritaville-themed parade. A street dance will follow and a beer tent and food vendors will be on site.

On Saturday, a Classic Car Cruise is planned, a kids section will feature a water slide, live music and more. In the afternoon, people can grab a bite to eat at the ATV Club barbecue and the Messalonskee Trail Riders Glow Ride through town will close out activities.

Stop by Valleepalooza

HALLOWELL — Valleepalooza 2025 is scheduled for Saturday at the Thomas College Ice Vault, 203 Whitten Road.

Tickets cost $50.

This year’s lineup features Starship with Mickey Thomas, Nestor Andress, Eric Grant Band, and Scolded Dogs.

The show runs from noon to 6 p.m. with food trucks, local beer and wine and an afternoon of live music; rain or shine. Bring a blanket or chair.

All proceeds benefit the Travis Mills Foundation, which supports post-9/11 veterans and their families through life-changing programs based in the Belgrade Lakes.

Winthrop Heritage Day planned

WINTHROP — Winthrop Heritage Day is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Honor Guard Opening Ceremony and Kick Off will begin at 10 a.m., Winthrop Police Department will showcase Bike Safety Basics, Car Show, Touch-a-Truck, bounce house activities, face painting and other events will take place throughout the day. Food trucks and vendors will be onsite.

Games will include corn hole, bingo and lawn Jenga, and there will also be a juggler teaching children and adults how to juggle. Winthrop Maine Historical Society will offer pop-up history exhibits about some important people in Winthrop’s past.

Music will be provided Tumbledown featuring Winthrop alumni Ian Blanchard, Rob Roberts Music, and The Cowboy Angels.

Ironman 70.3 Maine set for Sunday

AUGUSTA — The Ironman 70.3 Maine, a triathlon that challenges athletes to complete a total of 70.3 miles of swimming, biking and running in record time, will kick off Sunday. Last year 1,930 athletes from all over the country and beyond completed the event last year.

The swift swim down the Kennebec River, crowned the fastest Ironman 70.3 swim course globally in 2023, serves as the warm-up for the challenging 56-mile bike ride and rolling 13.1-mile run ahead.

Open Farm Day planned statewide

Maine’s Open Farm Day is a statewide event planned for Sunday.

It is an opportunity to connect visitors to Maine farms to learn about the care and effort to produce quality Maine farm products. Each site is different and offers visitors a chance to meet farmers and learn more about the role of farms across the state.

Farms will be open rain or shine.

Stop by Coburn Park for a concert

SKOWHEGAN — The next Concerts in the Park event at Coburn Park will feature Christine Poulson at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The free concerts are held every Sunday through Aug. 31 at the park on U.S. Route 2.

The Maine band is known for its classic rock, country gold, hard rock, Motown, and other music spanning the 20th century.

“Anything Goes” in Madison

MADISON — “Anything Goes” will be staged July 31-Aug. 9 at Lakewood Theater, 76 Theater Road.

Performance times are 7:30 p.m. July 31-Aug. 2 and Aug. 6-9; 4 p.m. Aug. 3; and 2 p.m. Aug. 6.

The story concerns madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy Number 13, “Moonface” Martin, aid Billy in his quest to win Hope. Songs introduced that later became pop and jazz standards are “Anything Goes,” “You’re the Top,” “All Through the Night,” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.”
