 
Raymond Arthur Convery
WINTHROP – Raymond Arthur Convery, 76, passed away peacefully at his home on July 17, 2025.
He was born Feb. 6, 1949, in Rumford to James and Helen (Morse) Convery.
He lived in Dixfield his whole young life, and graduated from Dixfield High School in 1967. He participated in many sports and clubs there. He also really enjoyed acting in one act plays, as well as his senior play.
After graduating high school, Ray attended the University of Rhode Island for two years and then transferred to UMaine Orono where he graduated with a B.S. and master’s degree in education. After a short time, teaching in Veazie, he taught P.E. at Winthrop Grade School until his retirement in 2009.
He loved playing golf, coaching and, above all, spending time with his family and friends. He was the longtime high school girls’ basketball coach in Winthrop, as well as assisting in Monmouth for several years. Through his years of teaching and coaching he touched the lives of countless young people and became a well-loved and involved member of the community. Some of his most cherished awards include the many sportsmanship banners and having the high school gym floor named after him.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Winthrop; son, Benjamin Convery of Winthrop, son, Jason Convery and his wife Angela of Salem, Va., daughter, Stephanie (Convery) Orr and her husband Robert of Sayre, Pa.; brother, Bob Convery and his wife Cindy of Scarborough; his grandchildren, Jamie and Brenna Convery of Salem, Va. and Raegan Orr of Sayre, Pa.; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Jim Convery, sister-in-law, Alice Convery; daughter-in-law, Jessica Clark Convery; and granddaughter, Alyson Convery.
Visiting hours will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday July 24, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 20 Lake St., Winthrop, on Friday July 25 at 10 a.m. There will be a reception to follow at Springbrook Golf Club in Leeds.
