Maine champion Bonny Eagle scored six runs in the fourth inning to overcome an early deficit and beat Cranston Western of Rhode Island 8-3 in the Little League Softball New England Region Tournament on Wednesday morning in Bristol, Connecticut.

Maine, 3-1 in the tournament, advances to the elimination semifinal at noon Thursday (streamed on ESPN+) against Vermont.

Defending regional champion Rhode Island (1-2) is eliminated after losing to Maine for the second time in four days.

Jasmine Peters struck out eight, walked three and allowed six hits in six innings for Bonny Eagle.

Julia Peters scored on a fielder’s choice to give Bonny Eagle a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Rhode Island took the lead with three runs in the top of the third on an RBI single by Chloe Whittenberger and a two-run single by Mia Vieira.

Bonny Eagle pulled within one in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Maddie Riesbeck that drove in Liberty Atkinson. Bonny Eagle then scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth, including a two-run, inside-the-park-home run by Baylee Pouliot.

Rhode Island, which was no-hit in a 10-0 loss to Maine on Sunday night, put runners on second and third in the top of the sixth, but could not close the gap.

Maine had 11 hits, drew four walks and made three errors.
