Max Ferguson’s two-run double in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie, propelling the Portland Sea Dogs to a 5-3 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels in an Eastern League game Thursday night at Richmond, Virginia.
The Sea Dogs managed just two hits through the first five innings and trailed 1-0, but Ronald Rosario doubled home the tying run after a walk and an error. Ferguson followed with his go-ahead double, then scored later in the inning on another error.
After Richmond cut its deficit to 4-3 with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, Portland padded its lead in the ninth on a single by James Tibbs III and an RBI double by Allan Castro.
Caleb Bolden was credited with the win after pitching the final 4 1/3 innings in relief of Dalton Rogers.
