The Boston Red Sox placed infielder Marcelo Mayer on the 10-day injured list with a right wrist sprain on Friday and recalled infielder David Hamilton. Mayer’s IL stint is retroactive to Thursday.
Mayer, who made his major league debt earlier this season, is batting .228 with eight doubles, a triple and four home runs. He made 28 starts at third base and seven at second.
Hamilton played 62 games with Boston earlier this season, batting .179 with three doubles and three home runs. He was sent to Triple-A Worcester when Alex Bregman was activated from the injured list on July 11.
