NORRIDGWOCK – Neola Davis died July 30, 2025, at the age of 96, at her home in Norridgewock, Maine. She was born in Sangerville, Maine, on Dec. 29, 1928, second daughter of Harold E. and Marjorie A. (Greeley) Stearns.
She graduated as Valedictorian of her class from Sangerville High School in 1947 and married her beloved husband, Wendell E. Davis, in October. They moved to Dexter where she joined Central Maine Power Co. (CMP) as a general clerk in 1953. Recognized for her exceptional work and assumption of extra responsibilities, in 1975 she was made Office Supervisor at the district level in Dover-Foxcroft, a position newly created by the company. In 1979 she was promoted to District Manager of the Skowhegan District, where she supervised 54 employees in maintaining power lines and equipment, reading meters, billing, and customer service, until she retired in 1991. She was well-respected in her district and throughout CMP. She was recognized by the Margaret Chase Smith Library for her leadership in a male-dominated field.
As a prominent member of the Greater Skowhegan business community, she was active in Rotary and served on the Board of Directors for Skowhegan Savings Bank. Following her retirement, she continued to practice her accounting skills as a bookkeeper for several businesses. She was also an avid volunteer for Centenary Methodist Church, of which she was a member, the local food cupboard, Special Olympics, and Camp Mechuwana, among others.
Neola was predeceased by her husband and her siblings, Muriel Gilbert and Harold Stearns, Jr. Known as “Auntie” by many in addition to her family, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Angie Stearns; and her nieces, nephews and their spouses, David Gilbert, Dennis Gilbert (Steph), Jane Gilbert, Marjorie Ivie, Harold Stearns (Aimee), Kathy Costigan (Galen), Debbi Arsenault, Roger Davis (Victoria), Richard Davis (Debbie), Linda Hoar (Wayne), and Diana Davis; as well as great nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, August 7, 2025, until time of funeral service, at Centenary Methodist Church in Skowhegan.
