Alice M. Blanchard

BELGRADE – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alice M. Blanchard, beloved mother, and Nana, at the age of 80. Alice passed away peacefully after a long illness as the sun was setting on a beautiful summer day, July 19, 2025, with family by her side.

Alice was born on Jan. 29, 1945, to Charles and Esther Thomas in Augusta, as one of six siblings. She attended Cony High School and went on to work for the State of Maine. Alice retired after many years of work, concluding her career at Belgrade Central Elementary School, where she was known as “Nanny” to all.

Her strength and dedication were evident in her role as a mother and Nana, where she created a warm, fun, and loving environment. Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her grandchildren in Belgrade, watching them play sports, camping, crafting, loving her fur babies, and above all, going to the ocean.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Valerie and husband Carlos, daughter, Diana and husband John; her sister, Helen and husband Roland, and brother-in-law, George. She also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren, Katelyn, Jillian, James, Andrew, and Nicholas; as well as many other family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents; her siblings; and her life partner, Joe Capano.

She was the center of our family; we will always hold her close in our hearts as we remember her contagious laugh and beautiful soul.

There will be a small celebration of life held at a later date.
