Craig James Aderman

FREEPORT – Craig James Aderman, 71, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 18, 2025, at his favorite place on earth, his home on Moosehead Lake, with his beloved wife, Carol, by his side.

Craig was born on July 15, 1953, in Marinette, Wis., to Merrill James and Mary Patricia Aderman. He spent his early years surrounded by family and graduated from Penncrest High School in Media, Pa., in 1971. He went on to attend the University of Maine at Orono, where he earned a degree in Pulp and Paper Engineering in 1975. During this time, Craig fell in love with the state of Maine, a place that would forever hold his heart. He later earned a master’s degree from Thomas College.

Craig enjoyed a successful 40-year career in the paper industry, working for Scott Paper Company (Waterville; and Philadelphia, Pa.), SD Warren (Somerset), and Sappi Paper Company (Westbrook; and South Africa). He was respected for his leadership, technical expertise, and dedication to his work.

In retirement, Craig embraced life fully alongside Carol, spending time between Murrells Inlet, S.C.; Moosehead Lake, and Freeport. He found joy in the simple pleasures: fishing, golfing, playing bridge and poker, and fixing just about anything (usually without instructions). He was a natural problem-solver with a curious mind and a quick wit.

Craig took particular pride in beautifying his homes, most notably by planting over 300 daffodils along the edge of his Freeport property. He was a thoughtful and generous man, and while he accomplished much, his greatest pride was his family.

Craig is survived by his loving wife, Carol Aderman; his children, Dan Aderman and his partner Rachael of Uganda, Chris Aderman and his wife Jane of Portland, Ore., and Amy Taylor; and his beloved grandchildren, Jack, Kyra, Wells, Ivy, and Lila. He is also survived by his siblings Juli Aderman-Hagerty and her husband Michael of Boulder, Colo., Jane Follmer and her husband Buzz of Cambridge, Md., Claudia Aderman-Schweiner of Green Bay, Wis., and Bruce Aderman and his wife Ann of St. Charles, Ill.; along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

Please join the family in celebrating Craig’s life on Sunday, Aug. 24, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Brunswick Golf Club, 165 River Rd., Brunswick. Please bring your favorite joke and story and join us in remembering and honoring Craig’s life.
