On Saturday evening, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office found a 3-year-old toddler dead inside a vehicle in Milford. The child’s mother was charged with manslaughter the following day, according to Maine State Police.
Following a report from a local Milford business, officers found the deceased young girl inside the vehicle of her mother Kelly Brown, 40, of Havertown, Pennsylvania. Brown was soon located nearby and detained by law enforcement.
Earlier attempts had been made to locate Brown and her child with the intent to check on their well-being at the request of concerned family members.
Upon the discovery of the child’s death, the sheriff’s office requested the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit’s assistance with the investigation. Detectives and members of the Maine State Police Evidence Response Team conducted an investigation in partnership with the sheriff’s office. An autopsy will be performed on the child to determine the cause and manner of death.
At approximately 5 a.m. on Sunday, Maine State Police arrested Brown and charged her with manslaughter. She is booked in the Penobscot County Jail pending her appearance at the Penobscot Judicial Center, according to Maine State Police.
