Barry Wesley Crocker
BWEST GARDINER – Barry Wesley Crocker, 82, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at the Captain Lewis Residence, following a long struggle with failing health.
He was born on May 2, 1943, in Lincoln, the son of Clair and Lila (Nute) Crocker. The youngest of seven children, he grew up in Lee, Maine. Active in sports, he excelled in basketball, scoring an average of 22 points per game.
Following graduation from Lee Academy, Barry moved to Monmouth and worked at Livermore Shoe in Livermore Falls. In 1966 he met his future wife Ann Corkum who was working at the factory between college years. Married that same year in Livermore Falls, he was also drafted into the Army in November 1966. As part of the Air Mobile Outfit of the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Barry did extensive Classified Secret work in field recovery, receiving commendations for his work and earning the rank of Specialist 5.
A graduate of Southern Maine Vocational College, he worked a number of jobs in construction and oil burner service, and then nearly 30 years as a pipefitter at Bath Iron Works before retiring in 2008.
Barry enjoyed many outdoor activities, including long walks, exploring the woods around Maine, and always looking for a good brook to fish for trout. A long-time member of the West Gardiner Rod & Gun Club, he was part of the initial group conducting archery activities. He and his wife Ann were able to travel to special places they had often wanted to see. Among their many travels was a 1300-mile drive around a spectacular portion of Alaska, a guided tour around Great Britain, several fishing trips to Quebec, and Caribbean cruises.
He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers Arnold, Malcolm and Marvin Crocker, and a sister Brenda (Crocker) Cushman.
Barry is survived by his wife Ann of West Gardiner, Maine, son Michael Crocker and wife Terri of Bath, and daughter Laura (Crocker) Lindsay of Hanover, New Hampshire; two siblings are Ronald Crocker and wife Geraldine of Lee, Maine and Roberta (Crocker) Drake and husband Roger of Nobleboro; seven grandchildren: Joshua Crocker, and Kordell, Grace, Ella, Kaye, Faith and Abby Lindsay; three great grandsons: Abbot, Aleister, and Malcolm, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
