Acadia National Park had more visitors in July than in any month since 1989.
The national park on Mount Desert Island saw 797,030 visitors last month, according to National Park Service data.
The last time Acadia saw larger figures was in the summer of 1989, when over 999,000 people visited in July, and its all-time monthly record of 1,045,060 visitors that August.
That was also the park’s busiest year on record, with over 5.4 million visitors, according to NPS data. It saw over 3.9 million visitors last year.
Other than 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the national park has seen at least 740,000 visitors every July and August since 2017. Over 4 million people visited in 2021, the highest annual rate since 1989’s record-breaking year.
